The best option is to keep your dog somewhere where he can see and hear you when you are home. Typically, this might mean fencing off a kitchen. If you are home most of the time and only leave the house for short periods, it is permissible to use a crate. However, be sure to set your puppy up for success, and never confine your dog in a small enclosure for longer than he has the ability to “hold it”.
